Es Baluard de Sant Pere - Contemporary art fortified by history

A must-see museum with a treasure that will surprise you

Es Baluard Museu d'Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma is a dynamic museum that combines temporary exhibitions and informative and educational activities with a permanent collection, which includes works by Antoni Tàpies, Pablo Picasso and Miquel Barceló.

If you are interested in architecture, be sure not to miss Es Baluard. Its exterior is the perfect place to enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of Palma. And the space itself is unique and authentic, as it blends into and connects to Palma’s medieval ramparts that enclose the city. The space also has an added bonus, a unique and historical feature: the ‘aljub’, an old freshwater cistern, measuring over 353 square metres and which originally supplied the whole neighbourhood of Puig de Sant Pere and the ships that came into port. The ‘aljub’ currently houses some very special exhibitions. Es Baluard is, therefore, a unique, suggestive and inspiring space with a dynamic and versatile cultural function; a symbol of the more cosmopolitan side of Palma.
